This acrylic painting was started last spring, put aside, and then I began work on it in earnest in the last two weeks. The sketch of glyphs on the canvas was the inspiration for the digital glyphs in my small chapbook (Editor:Dan Waber of chapbookpublishers.com) called THIS IS VISUAL POETRY which I’d described (last April) for that website as:
“Inside are digitally enhanced asemic characters – each a small part of a painting I’m currently working on. I began my painting after returning from a two week archeological tour in Guatemala where we were highly saturated with Mayan glyphs on stelas, altars, temples, and ceramics. The cover represents the order of eleven of the glyphs in my painting. Five more glyphs inside are not represented on the cover.”
